Nothing is more frustrating than a dead car.

Don't waste time and money paying for a tow truck to drag your car to a big box shop. We're masters at diagnosing why your vehicle won't start and we'll do it onsite where your vehicle is parked.

Our team will track down the issue, give you a fair price, and help bring your car back to life.

A dead car diagnostic, aimed at identifying why a car won’t start or has no power, typically involves a systematic check of key systems. Here’s what it usually includes:
  • Battery Inspection and Testing: Checking the battery for voltage (using a multimeter or load tester), corrosion on terminals, and loose connections. A healthy battery should read ~12.6V when off and ~13.5-14.5V when running.
  • Starter System Check: Testing the starter motor, solenoid, and related wiring for proper operation. Listening for clicks or grinding noises when turning the key can indicate issues.
  • Alternator and Charging System Test: Verifying the alternator is charging the battery correctly (output should be ~13.5-14.5V) and checking the drive belt for wear or slippage.
  • Ignition System Evaluation: Inspecting the ignition switch, key fob (if applicable), spark plugs, and ignition coils for faults. For older cars, checking the distributor or ignition module.
  • Fuse and Relay Inspection: Examining the main fuses, starter relay, and fuel pump relay in the fuse box for blown fuses or faulty relays.
  • Fuel System Check: Ensuring the fuel pump is working (listening for a hum when the key is turned to “on”) and checking fuel pressure or delivery if needed.
  • Wiring and Ground Check: Inspecting major ground connections and wiring harnesses for corrosion, breaks, or loose connections that could disrupt power.
  • Diagnostic Scan: Using an OBD-II scanner to check for trouble codes related to the engine, immobilizer, or other systems that might prevent starting.
  • Security System/Immobilizer Check: Verifying the car’s anti-theft system or transponder key isn’t locking out the ignition (common in modern vehicles).
  • Visual Inspection: Looking for obvious issues like loose cables, damaged components, or signs of rodent damage to wiring.
  • Crank/No-Start Test: Attempting to crank the engine to determine if it’s a no-crank (electrical/starter issue) or crank/no-start (fuel, spark, or engine issue) problem.
